Second Gobal Youth Summit 2014
February 22, 2014
Educators from over 30 Wisconsin high schools and youth organizations brought their students to the 2nd Annual Global Youth Summit on Saturday, February 22, an initiative of the Department of Public Instruction that was hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s Institute of World Affairs. Throughout the entirely youth-run summit, students from urban, rural, and suburban schools found themselves immersed in conversations with international students and their peers about what it means to be a part of a global society, what languages they are learning or interested in learning, what it means to study abroad and where they may like to go, and what global challenges they are most concerned about. Their teachers also came together in a separate summit to conduct parallel discussions about global education. The day can perhaps be summed up best through the slogan written by one group of participants as a caption to a poster they created: “Globally aware, culturally sensitive, dare to be diverse.” The next Global Youth Summit will be held in Madison on February 28, 2015.

First Global Youth Summit 2013
February 23, 2013
This first summit brought together about 80 high school students and 40 adults -- mostly teachers-- for a day of inspiration about exploring global issues. The day was a huge success with some students commenting that this had been one of their best experiences EVER!
